New Delhi, In view of the bumper crowd that gathers every year during Diwali and Chhath Puja, the Central Government has embarked on a mission to eliminate the long waiting list by running 3000 new passenger trains in the next four years. With this capacity expansion of Indian Railways, 1000 crore passengers will be able to travel comfortably in trains every year. For this, the government is working in a phased manner.
A senior Railway Board official said that about 5500 LHB coaches are being manufactured every year. Under the policy decision, LHB coaches will be built on pull-push train set technology. This means that instead of a coach, a train will emerge from the factory. In this way, every year 225 pull-push trains (Amrit Bharat Express) will be added to the railway network. Apart from this, another 1600 to 1700 new trains are to be run in the next four to five years. By 2027, 3000 new trains will be seen running on the tracks. At present about 69 thousand LHB coaches are available in Railways. These will also be converted into push-pull train sets. Along with automatic doors, semi-permanent couplers will be installed in the train set.
