New Delhi , Lahori Gate Police has arrested a person from Shimla in the case of fraud of Rs 1 crore over phone by posing as a friend’s son. The police have recovered the car, phone and tablet etc. purchased with the defrauded money from the accused.
DCP Manoj Kumar Meena said that 62-year-old Pradeep Jain had given a complaint on November 1. The victim told that on October 28, he received a call from a WhatsApp number with the photo of his friend Prakash Sanghvi. The caller introduced himself as Prakash’s son and asked for a loan of Rs 1 crore. The victim got him the money from a person in the Church Mission area. When he asked his friend Prakash about this, he refused. After this the victim realized that he had been cheated.
The location of the WhatsApp number of the accused was found in Shimla. On the complaint of the victim, Church Mission outpost in-charge SI Ranvijay Singh registered a case of fraud and started investigation. The location of WhatsApp activated on the mobile number of the accused was found in Shimla. A police team arrested the accused Suresh Purohit on November 6.
The accused told during police interrogation that he was running this gang along with his associates Dashrath and Hemant Jain. He previously worked in Kucha Ghasiram, so he had knowledge about people doing business in cash. He has cheated four people before also. The accused told that he took Rs 40 lakh from the fraud amount and distributed the remaining amount among his two associates. Suresh told that he had bought SUV, phone and laptop with the cheated money.
