New Delhi , The Supreme Court has issued a notice to ED on a petition by Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who is jailed in the alleged liquor scam of Delhi. Sanjay Singh had challenged in the Supreme Court the order of the High Court in which the High Court had rejected a petition related to the arrest of the AAP MP in the liquor scam and taking him on remand.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on October 4 in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. In the Supreme Court, the bench of Justices Sanjeev Khanna and SVN Bhati issued a notice to the Center and ED on Sanjay Singh’s petition related to money laundering and sought their reply by December 11. The bench ordered that if Singh files a plea for regular bail, it should be considered independently of the observations made in the Delhi High Court judgment on October 20.
Before his arrest, the ED team had interrogated Sanjay Singh for several hours. After this, a Delhi court sent Sanjay Singh to jail. After going to jail, Sanjay Singh challenged his arrest in the High Court. On behalf of Sanjay Singh, it was argued in the court that his arrest was illegal and he was wrongly arrested by using power. Sanjay Singh had also accused ED of not following the law.
However, later this petition of Sanjay Singh was rejected in the High Court. After which he has challenged this order of the High Court in the Supreme Court. Now the Supreme Court has issued a notice to ED on this and has sought answers from the investigating agency. The investigating agency claims that Sanjay Singh played an important role in the alleged liquor scam of Delhi. However, Sanjay Singh and all the Aam Aadmi Party leaders have been denying any kind of liquor scam or any role of Sanjay Singh in it. In this case, veteran leader of Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia is already in jail.
