Ranji Trophy: Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his Ranji debut at the age of 12, became the second youngest player in the history of the tournament – Bollywood Keeda

Sports Desk. BCCI’s prestigious domestic tournament Ranji Trophy got off to a colorful start on Friday. In this multi-day cricket tournament, Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar cricket team made a special record in his name by making his debut. Vaibhav made his debut in first-class cricket on Friday in the match being played between Bihar and Mumbai at Moinul Haq Stadium in Patna. He became the youngest player to debut for his team and also the second youngest player to play Ranji Trophy. He debuted for Bihar at the age of 12 years 284 days. The name of the youngest debutant in Ranji Trophy is Aleemuddin, who started his first-class career in 1942-43 at the age of 12 years and 73 days.

Let us tell you that with the debut, a controversy has erupted regarding Vaibhav’s age. In an interview he had given his date of birth as 27 September 2009. Accordingly, on January 5, 2024, his age was 14 years, three months and nine days. But, in many reports his official date of birth is being stated as March 27, 2011. In this respect, his age was 12 years and 284 days. In such a situation, there is a lot of discussion on social media about his age. Apart from Alimuddin and Vaibhav, SK Bose made his debut at 12 years and 76 days (1959-60) and Mohammad Ramzan made his debut at 12 years and 247 days (1937).

It is noteworthy that before Vaibhav, only eight players in the world had made their debut in first-class cricket before the age of 13. Apart from Alimuddin, Bose, Ramzan, Aaqib Javed (1984-85), Mohammad Akram (1968-69), Rizwan Sattar (1985-86), Salimuddin (1954-55) and Qasim Firoz (1970-71) are included. Vaibhav represented Bihar in Cooch Behar Trophy 2023. In that tournament, in a match against Jharkhand, he scored 151 runs in 128 balls with the help of 22 fours and three sixes. He also took part in India’s Under-19 multilateral series against England and Bangladesh. In that tournament he scored 53, 74, zero, 41 and zero. Vaibhav also performed brilliantly in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, scoring 393 runs in five matches with an average of 79 and a strike rate of 109.
