Pepperfry CEO Ambrish Murthy passed away due to heart attack in Leh. Company co-founder Ashish Shah has confirmed this. He was 51 years old. Ambareesh Murthy, in partnership with Ashish Shah, founded the venture in 2012 to sell furniture and home accessories online. Prior to founding Pepperfry, Ambareesh held the position of Country Manager for eBay in India, Philippines and Malaysia. Prior to this, Murthy was the Brand Leader, Levi Strauss India, responsible for product development, marketing and retail strategies for the brand. He was also associated with Britannia Industries as Marketing Manager.
Murthy called himself a closet sociopath on his X (formerly Twitter) profile, and spoke of his love of history for reading epic fantasies. He had 27 years of general management experience in the FMCG, financial services and internet industries. He was an alumnus of the 1996 batch of IIT Calcutta and completed his graduation in engineering from Delhi College of Engineering in 1994.
Extremely devastated to inform that my friend, mentor, brother, soulmate @AmbareeshMurty is no more. Lost him last night to a cardiac arrest at Leh. Please pray for him and for strength to his family and near ones.
