New Delhi , Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will make 40 percent of the total space available in its various bus depots available for parking of private vehicles. This decision of DTC will help in solving the problem of parking in Delhi. Besides, DTC which is running in loss will also get an opportunity to increase its income.
According to officials, DTC has identified space in 40 depots and issued a tender for making parking. Parking charges will be decided as per the rates of Delhi Municipal Corporations. Actually, DTC has 40 bus depots in Delhi, which are located in many crowded areas of the city, where there is a problem of parking.
Depots remain empty during the day: DTC bus depots remain empty during the day, hence they will be used for parking of private vehicles during the day. Parking facility will be available from 9 am to 9 pm. The parking space in the depot has been marked. According to officials, depending on the area of the bus depot, space ranging from 1200 square meters to 3720 square meters has been marked for parking of private vehicles.
Private companies will take over the responsibility. The depots where DTC has started the process of creating parking in the first phase include Hari Nagar, Peeragarhi, Nehru Place, Nand Nagari, Vasant Vihar, Sarojini Nagar, Kalkaji, Okhla, Srinivaspuri, Mayapuri, Shadipur, Dwarka etc. Are included. Parking in the depot will be monitored through CCTV cameras. DTC will hand over the responsibility of parking to a private company.
The parking will have space to park thousands of vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Actually, there are big markets in Sarojini Nagar, Wazirpur, Nehru Place, Vasant Vihar, Kalkaji. A large number of people come there to shop during the day. Now they will not have parking problems and will also get relief from traffic jams.
The parking charges in DTC depot will be applicable as per the rates fixed by the Municipal Corporation. The fee will be decided according to the space available for parking in the depot. According to sources, the minimum fee will range from Rs 4.10 lakh to Rs 9.53 lakh. The selected company will be given the contract for three years.
