New Delhi . Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved issuing notification of the Act related to abortion. However, he expressed displeasure over the two-year delay in issuing the notification.
According to Raj Nivas, the LG on Thursday approved the proposal of the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Delhi Government to issue notification regarding statutory forms one, two and three under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Amendment Act. The Act provides women the right to comprehensive abortion care by registered physicians and termination of pregnancy in certain circumstances. However, the LG expressed displeasure that the matter was presented for his approval after more than two years, whereas an e-mail for this was sent by the Central Government to the Delhi Government in December, 2021.
Keeping in mind the seriousness of the issue, while giving his consent to the proposal, the LG directed the Health Department of Delhi Government to find out the reason for the excessive delay in processing the case. He has asked to take action against the officials responsible for this delay.

The Lieutenant Governor has expressed displeasure towards the Delhi government over the two-year delay in implementing the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Act 2021. Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has hit back regarding this. He said that we take LG Saheb’s displeasure with good intentions. But we want to tell them that after Odisha, Delhi is the second state in the country to implement the said law. We are sensitive about women’s health.
