Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas passes away, the singer was suffering from a long illness… – Bollywood Keeda

Famous ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas has passed away. It has been reported that he was suffering from illness for a long time. He breathed his last at the age of 72. Information about the death has been given by Pankaj’s daughter Nayab Udhas. In the year 2006, Pankaj Udhas was honored with the Padma Shri award to commemorate the completion of silver jubilee in his ghazal singing career.

Pankaj’s daughter Nayaab Udhas wrote in the post – It is with great sadness that we have to tell you that Padmashree Pankaj Udhas passed away on 26 February 2024. He was ill for a long time.

After knowing this news, there is mourning in the music world. The leaving of a ghazal singer like Pankaj has left the fans sad. Everyone is paying their last tribute to the singer with tears in their eyes on social media.

Pankaj Udhas was born on 17 May 1951. In the Indian music industry, he is credited with bringing this genre into the realm of popular music along with other composers such as Talat Aziz and Jagjit Singh. Udhas gained fame by singing in the film Naam, in which one of his songs Chiththi Aayi Hai became quite popular. Since then he has lent his voice as a playback singer for many films. Pankaj Udhas’ elder brother Manhar was a theater actor, due to which Pankaj came in contact with music. His first performance on stage took place during the India-China war, in which he sang “Aye mere watan ke logon” for which he was given a reward of Rs 51 by an audience. After four years, he got admitted to the Sangeet Natya Academy of Rajkot and learned the nuances of playing the tabla. After that, he studied for a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Xavier’s College and started working in a bar, spending time practicing singing.

Pankaj Udhas lent his voice for the first time in the 1972 film Kamna, which was an unsuccessful film. Subsequently, Udhas developed interest in ghazal singing and also learned Urdu to pursue a career as a ghazal singer. His first ghazal album Aahat was released in 1980. From here he started getting success and by 2009 he had released 40 albums. In 1986, Udhas got another opportunity to showcase his art in the film Naam, which also brought him a lot of fame. He continued working as a playback singer, he also appeared in some films like Saajan, Yeh Dillagi and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi. Later Udhas started a talent hunt program named ‘Aadab Arz Hai’ on Sony Entertainment Television. Actor John Abraham calls Udhas his mentor.
