Delhi High Court rejects petition to offer namaz in 600 year old demolished mosque – Bollywood Keeda

New Delhi, The Delhi High Court has refused permission to conduct Namaz Adalat on the occasion of Shab-e-Baraat at the 600-year-old demolished mosque in Mehrauli. The application filed by the Managing Committee of Delhi Waqf Board (DWB) was dismissed saying that the court is not inclined to issue any direction at this stage as the matter is already sub-judice in a petition pending since 2022.

The Managing Committee of Delhi Waqf Board had filed a petition in this regard. Hearing this, Justice Purushendra Kumar Kaurav said that the court has given instructions to maintain status quo at the site which is now in the possession of Delhi Development Authority i.e. DDA. Justice Kaurav also said that the main petition in this case has been heard several times and the last hearing will be held on March 7 to settle the matter. In such a situation the court cannot give any instructions.

Let us tell you that on Shab-e-Baraat (Night of Atonement), Muslims ask for forgiveness from Allah for the sins of themselves and their ancestors. Justice Purushindra Kumar Kaurav, during the hearing on the petition of the Management Committee of Delhi Waqf Board, said that the court has directed to maintain status quo at that site.

Let us tell you that on February 5, the High Court had directed the DDA to maintain status quo at the place where the mosque once stood. The Waqf Board has declared the demolition of the mosque illegal, while the DDA in its defense said that the mosque has been demolished as per the January 4 recommendation of the religious committee. It has been said that the CEO of Delhi Waqf Board was also given an opportunity of hearing by the religious committee, after which this decision was taken. However, the petitioner said that the religious committee has no right to order demolition.
