Amla Navami 2023: Amla Navami falls on the ninth date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. On the day of Amla Navami, people observe fast and worship Amla tree and Lord Vishnu. According to religious beliefs, Lord Vishnu resides in the Amla tree from Amla Navami and Sri Hari resides in it till Kartik Purnima.

Amla Navami is also called Akshay Navami and Kushmand Navami. By fasting and worshiping on the day of Amla Navami, one attains Akshaya virtue, hence it is called Akshaya Navami.

According to the Vedic calendar, the Navami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is starting at 03:16 AM on Tuesday, 21st November and this Tithi will end at 01:09 AM on Wednesday, 22nd November. On the basis of Udayatithi, this year Amla Navami will be celebrated on 21st November.

1- From Amla Navami, Lord Vishnu resides in the Amla tree, that is why people worship the Amla tree and offer Amla as food. Only Amla is taken as Prasad. By the grace of Vishnu one attains eternal virtue.

2- According to religious beliefs, on the day of Amla Navami, drops of nectar drip from the Amla tree, hence there is a tradition of sitting and eating food under the Amla tree on this day. Doing so maintains good health.

3-On Amla Navami, Lord Vishnu killed the demon Kushmand, hence it is called Kushmand Navami. On Amla Navami, people donate Kushmand i.e. pumpkin.
